One of my favorite movies is 'Gravity' starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. In it, remnants of a destroyed Russian satellite orbit the Earth destroying the Space Shuttle and stranding the crew in space. Bullock's character escapes to the Chinese space station Tiangong-1 which she uses to return to Earth.

Now, that space station is coming back to Earth all on its own.

The station's orbit has been decaying since 2015 and is scheduled to enter the atmosphere around April 9, give or take a week in either direction.

The bulk of the station will burn up on re-entry, but there are still chunks that could make it to Earth. As with all things space related, officials can only guesstimate where the pieces of Tiangong-1 will fall, and one of the targets is Iowa.

The Hawkeye state is in a narrow band of possibility for debris, but we're in the mix nonetheless.
