While browsing Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin's website the other day, I came across a "Dubuque" page in his bio.

Yep, the writer and creator of GOT used to live in Dubuque, Iowa!

Me and my buddies are what people call "Throners."  We get together every Sunday between April and June to watch the new episodes on HBO and spend the time between re-watching the entire series multiple times.

In 1975, Martin was hired as a journalism instructor at Clarke College, and his then wife Gale decided to finish her degree there as well.  He taught print journalism classes and served as faculty advisor to the student newspaper The Courier.

George and Gale moved into an old house at 2266 Jackson St.  The pair lived there until she finished her degree in 1979.

George and Gale decided to move to New Mexico, where George would turn to writing full-time.

But, the stress of the move got to both of them and the two divorced before they even left Dubuque.  Gale moved north, while George followed through with the move to Santa Fe.  He even lived in the house the two were supposed to share.
