The Illinois State Police have an important reminder for drivers: Do not, under any circumstances, ride a bicycle on the highway.

We can only imagine what prompted the ISP to post this on their Facebook page:

I double checked online, and not only is it illegal to ride your bike on the highway in Illinois, but it's also not permitted in Iowa. Besides the fact that a bike rider can obviously never keep up with the flow of traffic, bikers on the shoulder of the road are really putting themselves in harm's way, especially at night or during inclement weather.

Now I've never personally known someone who has attempted to ride a bike on the interstate, but I know they're out there. I understand not everyone owns a car, but cruising down the highway on bike sounds like a really quick way to get injured or worse. In other words, just don't do it.
