Illinois Police Using Planes to Catch Speeders on I-74

I confess to being a bit of a lead foot. In town I always find myself going 40mph, and on the Interstate I'm usually cruising at about 73mph.

I can only recall being pulled over once for speeding.  When the officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going, I answered with a very non-committal "somewhat."

Our odds of being caught speeding on I-74 in Illinois just went up. Illinois State Police have rolled out a plane that spots speeders from the air. The 'bear in the air' times the distance a car travels between two hash marks on the freeway to determine its speed, then radios to patrol cars on the ground.

In a recent 'sting', police pulled over 12 vehicles going over the speed limit.
