Family stories and ancestors, every family has them. In my family they've been passed down orally from generation to generation. My first experience with this was my Great Aunt Margaret telling the story about how my Great Uncle Jim, her brother, rose from an elevator operator to a big deal in the finance department at Beatrice Foods. While the stories are plentiful, the genealogy can get a little murky. It's become a little more murky as older generations have passed.

If you have family stories or genealogy information you want to pass on to your children, grand children or even future grand children you might want to check out the "Ask Granny" genealogy workshop at the Rock Island Library. This workshop allows participants to create a genealogical gift for their family by answering the question, "what can Granny or Grandpa tell us about our family ancestors?"

The free workshop is at the Rock Island Downtown Library on Monday October 22, from 1:00PM - 2:30PM CT.  Registration is required for this free event and all supplies will be provided. There are no computers involved and at the end of the workshop you'll have recorded your ancestors into a simple family tree. You can register for the event here.
