Illinois State Police warned motorists this afternoon that Interstate 74 south of where I-74, I-80 and I-280 meet is "nearly impassable due to drifting and blowing snow." This according to a report from our partner Local 4 News and Ourquadcities.com.

Illinois State Police District 7 put out a news release obtained by Local 4 News that says conditions on the interstate are extremely slick, visibility in places is down to almost zero, and wind gusts are almost strong enough to cause drivers to loose control of their vehicle and drive off the highway.

Illinois State Police say drivers have been experiencing similar conditions on all North-South roads and to proceed with extreme caution. Additionally, remember to slow down, leave plenty of room between you and other vehicles, and turn on your headlights.

Andy McCray's Local Pinpoint Forecast calls for decreased visibility tonight due to windy conditions. Along with the wind, ice on branches may cause power outages. Snow ends tonight. Tomorrow mostly sunny with a high around 30. Slim chances for rain and snow Thursday and Friday.
