Styx is hitting the stage with REO Speedwagon and special guest former Eagle Don Felder at the TaxSlayer Center Saturday Night March 17th. I happened to be in Las Vegas a little over a year ago when Styx and Don Felder happened to be holding a limited residency at The Venetian and I went to the show. If Styx and Don Felder perform a similar show, we're in for a real treat when they hit the stage.

It was a high energy performance filled with hits peppered with the occasional short story or comment about a song they were performing, or reminiscing about the band's and audience's younger days. In the show I saw, the band tended to play the more rocking tunes favored by Tommy Shaw and James Young. Growing up in Chicago I've become very familiar with Styx's music, but in no way would I consider myself more than a casual fan. As a casual fan the show delivered and made me want to take a closer look at the band's discography.

Former Eagle Don Felder did not disappoint either. He played a variety of Eagles hits and added a fun dimension to the middle of the show. As for REO Speedwagon, it's been several years since I saw them in concert, and they weren't on the bill for Styx's Vegas residency. When I saw them several years ago they sounded great and I'd expect nothing less from them next weekend.

If you want to get tickets to the show at the TaxSlayer Center you can get them here. You can also try to win tickets to the show by playing Styx / REO Speedwagon trivia with Craig at 8:20AM and Rob at 4:20PM. Here's a few pictures I took during the Vegas show:
