If you take River Drive during your to-and-from work commutes, you might've had a bit of a longer trip this morning. A large portion of the road was closed, requiring more than a few detours.

As we all know, construction season is kind of never-ending in the midwest. But surprisingly enough, construction actually was not the cause of River Drive's closure this morning.

According to the Quad-City Times, River Drive was actually closed so the city could install flood protection. With all the rain we've been getting, Mississippi River levels have only been rising.

The Mississippi, Rock, Wapsipinicon, Cedar and Iowa rivers are all under flood warnings until further notice, so odds are River Drive will be closed a bit longer, between 3rd and Brady Streets.

Eastbound traffic will detour to Brady, to 3rd St to River Drive. Westbound will detour to 4th Street, to Harrison Street, to River Drive. Plan your commutes accordingly!
