For time immortal, teenagers have done dumb stuff to prove themselves to each other. It's social ritual, but sometimes it has nasty consequences.

The latest teen fad is the Tide Pod Challenge - teens dare each other to eat Tide Laundry Detergent Pods.

It's not just judgement-challenged teens that have suffered health issues from eating the pods. Young children have also ingested the soap pods left within their reach, believing them to be candy.

An alternative to your child injuring themselves is to switch to a better laundry soap alternative.

According to an article in the Quad City Times, these three products are just as good as Tide Pods, and safer too:

  • Grab Green Laundry Detergent Pods: A non-toxic, cruelty-free, hypo-allergenic laundry pod in a variety of scents.
  • Nellie’s Laundry Soda: A concentrated powder that dissolves in water. It's chlorine-free, environmentally friendly, and biodegradable, and has an oxygen brightener. No word on what it tastes like.
  • LG Lucky Fiji Laundry Detergent Sheets: These laundry sheets dissolve in water, and are even more portable than pods.
