As of Wednesday, only 9 people have died from the novel coronavirus in Iowa.

Unfortunately, a new study predicts that the number will skyrocket by the end of the summer.

The Sioux City Journal reports a study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation predicts 777 Iowans will pass away from COVID-19 by August 4.

The study also determined that although the state has enough hospital beds to accommodate all cases, hospitals could end up running short with ICU beds and ventilators. Iowa has 283 invasive ventilators, but projections say the state could need 292 by mid-April.

The numbers factor in social distancing measures, although Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has yet to institute a Shelter in Place mandate.

Iowa is estimated to hit peak caseload by April 17.
