Get ready, eastern Iowa. It certainly appears that Amazon is preparing to build another massive warehouse, their first in the eastern half of the state.

Late last year, Amazon opened a fulfillment center in the central Iowa city of Bondurant, and the Des Moines Register reports that two months ago the company signed an agreement for a warehouse in Ankeny. Amazon also operates other facilities in West Des Moines, Grimes, and other cities, including the "last mile" delivery station in Iowa City. Now, all indications point to another new facility to help quench the ravenous appetite of the online retailer's customers.

It appears that Davenport is next in line to get a huge warehouse, that would provide 1,000 permanent positions. According to the Des Moines Register, the city council in Davenport is examining an agreement for the development of a large facility that would be located near the Iowa-Illinois border. All signs point to the fact that it is an Amazon facility and, if it comes to fruition, would make at least a half-dozen warehouses in the Hawkeye State. The most amazing part is that all the others have opened in about the last year.

The Des Moines Register says Seefried Industrial Properties will build a warehouse just west of the Davenport airport, which is located north of I-80 (see image below). The cost would be $250 million dollars and it would create about 1,000 jobs with $15 being the minimum wage. Though no one is saying who the tenant will be, it screams Amazon. In February of 2020, we told you Amazon's new facility in Bondurant, Iowa was confirmed. It created approximately 1,000 jobs, with the minimum wage being $15 per hour.

Need further proof? The Des Moines Register reports the Seefried Industrial Properties agreement says the company that will use the warehouse had 1.298 million employees at the end of 2020. Amazon's 2020 annual report says "Last year, we hired 500,000 employees and now directly employ 1.3 million people around the world."

Not much suspense to this now, is there? Amazon definitely looks to be on its way to the Quad Cities. That would seem to make a major Amazon presence in Cedar Rapids unlikely, but the way the company is growing, I wouldn't rule it out.
