We told you in February of 2021 that the Apple logo on the back of your iPhone is actually a secret button. Well, now iPhone has another secret for you. It's been taking your photo without you even knowing it.

If you're having flashbacks of all of the things you've been doing while looking at your phone....yes, it was probably taking your photo then. Well, sort of. While the embarrassment is sinking in, let me explain what's going on.

According to Siouxland Proud, a TikTok user named Brie Thomason posted a video showing how it works. In the video, a woman (presumably Thomason) is using a digital camera to film a man using his iPhone. The camera has an infrared lens and is shooting the iPhone user looking at their home screen. The video shows the infrared camera flashes from the iPhone as the user looks at the screen. It appears that the iPhone snaps images every five to 10 seconds. Check it out below:

Before you get too embarrassed, you should know that Apple says that this feature is just part of the "TrueDepth IR Camera". It allows users to "control their face ID and Animoji (the animated emoji function)", according to the report. When you are using your iPhone, Apple says it "emits 30,000 infrared dots in a known pattern when a face is detected," according to Siouxland Proud. This essentially creates a 3D map of your face. This feature isn't available on all devices.

Although your phone is taking "photos" of you without you knowing it, it's part of the technology. It's not just to have a bunch of photos of your beautiful face.
