Bartending Tips
Best is really better; about the top shelf.
Top shelf liquors literally means from the top shelf at the store; where traditionally the better higher end liquors are stored and displayed. There is a big taste difference between the lower end and the top shelf brands. Want to upgrade your cocktail without breaking the bank? Not only can a garnish add to the flavor of a drink recipe but it also plays a role in finishing the presentation of certain cocktails.

The fresher side of things; keeping it real.
Choose fresh over canned or bottled ingredients when possible. This will apply mostly to fruit juices but can apply to other things as well. Do your research and if there is a fresher recipe approach take it!

Temperature is everything; so chill out.
This is just great common sense that will make the difference in how you enjoy your cocktail. Chill glasses in the refrigerator or freezer before putting in a cold cocktail. A cocktail should be enjoyed in the same temperature vessel as the actual drink itself is served.

Garnish VS plain Jane; playing dress up.
For some drinks a garnish is an essential and expected part of the cocktail and for others it may only be appropriate sometimes; for example we tend to garnish drinks more heavily during the summer months. Not only can a garnish add to the flavor or f drink recipe but it also plays a role in finishing the presentation of certain cocktails.

Don’t be a Mad Scientist; follow a recipe.
Measure all of the components of your cocktail. This will help you consistently create drinks that taste as expected. Yes, some professional bar tenders can accurately pour a shot, but at home your best practice is to take your time and carefully measure everything according to the recipe.
