There are many critics who contend that libraries are no longer needed in a digital age. Supporters point to the many low-income citizens who do not have access to the latest digital technology as the reason why libraries still serve a vital purpose in our communities.

One of those vital libraries will fully reopen today, after a water pipe break in May caused over $1 million in damage.

Mayor Bob Gallagher will cut the ribbon at the refurbished Bettendorf Public Library at 10am, and tours of the repaired areas will be offered to the public.

Though the library has been accessible since shortly after the water-damage incident, many parts of the library were off limits during repairs.
