This time last year we were seeing cancellations for everything. It's so good to talk about events that are coming back.

The City of Bettendorf has announced 4th of July festivities will be held this summer with a few changes. That means we'll have a parade, fireworks and street fest like we've enjoyed every year. The celebration will be held Saturday, July 3, 2021.

Each year the City of Bettendorf celebrates the 4th of July with a parade, music, entertainment, food, and fireworks....

Although the Facebook post doesn't make it entirely clear, it looks like the biggest changes include the date of the festivities and how each parade entry passes out candy.

If you're in the parade you'll need to hand candy out person -to-person or only to people who are sitting or standing on the curb or grassy areas along the parade route. No paper flyers will be allowed to be distributed.

All of that makes sense. Someone has to clean up candy that falls into the street and the paper left behind. It seems like a good way to have a parade and cut down on litter.

The city is also limiting parade entries to 70, so it will be a bit smaller than years past. You can send in your parade applications now.

After a year of no parades, no festivals, and not much fun, this is a good way to get back to normal life. Feels good to me.
