It's the time of year when curling up with some hot cocoa in front of a Christmas movie is at an all time high. But not all holiday movies are created equal, and each state seems to have their own preference when it comes to Christmas flicks.

The folks at Cabletv.com were curious to see what the top seasonal movie is in each part of the country, so they took a list of viewer favorites from AMC and cross referenced with Google trends data to come up with the perfect formula.

As it turns out, the Chevy Chase classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation topped the list in Iowa. Viewers in Nebraska and Missouri are also big fans of the Griswold family.

Illinois, on the other hand, chose my personal favorite, Home Alone. Incidentally, the movie takes place in the Chicago suburbs, so it might not come as a surprise that Illinois residents are feeling the love for Kevin McCallister and the Wet Bandits. So are residents of Texas, Georgia, North Dakota, Minnesota, and several other states.

Elf is, unsurprisingly, a popular choice also, taking the top spot in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Other top picks include It's A Wonderful Life and, cult favorite The Nightmare Before Christmas.
