A candlelight vigil, following visitation services, for 3 year-old, Braddock Shovlain, will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 916 E. Rusholme Street, Davenport.

Braddock Shovlain was struck in the parking lot of All Saints Catholic School last week. The accident remains under investigation. Not only has this been an unimaginable loss for his family, the entire community has been effected.

My mother-heart absolutely has broken over and over again for the Shovlain family. I can't imagine the pain and grief of losing a child. Just typing those words today, brings stinging tears to my eyes. The throws of grief and the hopes of healing to come, is all going to take some time. Grief has many layers, many stages and I send love, light and hugs-from-my-heart to this family for their loss. I ask you to do the same.

There is something we all can do to help. Many in the Quad Cities already have. We may be a growing metro, but in the face of tragedy, we still come together like a small town, like family, to support one another.

Thanks to a family friend of The Shovlains', the financial support they will need to help cover expenses is being met. Our sister station's Kevin Walker from B100 shared information on the GoFundMe campaign. The out pour of love and support from our community is touching, loving and makes me proud to be a part of it. Even area high schoolers are showing empathy and support for Braddock Shovlain by writing his name on their tennis shoes during a game last night. Read more about what Davenport North girls basketball team did to show honor last night.
