1- As I'm writing, Punxsutawney Phil has yet to appear from his hole, so we've yet to determine whether we'll see an early Spring, or six more weeks of winter. (UPDATE: Phil saw his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter) Where does this notion of a groundhog predicting the arrival of Spring come from? According to Wikipedia, the tradition is an old German custom brought over from Europe where when a bear finished hibernating was used to predict Spring's arrival.
