When our Midwest League baseball team comes back to Modern Woodmen Park, their GPS street directions might look a little different.

There's a proposal to rename a portion of Gaines Street, a portion of the road that leads to Modern Woodmen Park to "Royals Way."

The Davenport City Council is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a resolution which would rename that part of the street to honor the team’s affiliation with the Kansas City Royals.

According to the QC Times, the resolution was brought up at a Davenport City Council Committee of the Whole meeting last Wednesday and added to the consent agenda for approval at this week’s regularly-scheduled City Council meeting.

Here's the resolution:
The City of Davenport is grateful and honored that the Kansas City Royals have decided to affiliate with our local baseball team and value us as a great location for players to develop their skills and abilities in their chosen trade.
You might recall, the Royals organization chose the Quad-Cities' River Bandits club as its new high-A affiliate, allowing minor-league baseball to remain in Davenport. There was some concern about the future for the team as minor league teams are being cut back.

Only a small part of Gaines Street just south of the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks will see the change. The ballpark where the River Bandits play is the only address impacted by the resolution.

No word on exactly when we'll see the new street sign. Hopefully it will be up when baseball resumes this spring with social distancing and a few tweaks to follow pandemic guidelines.
