Following the tragedy that occurred a few weeks ago in Parkland, Florida, many cities have planned marches to speak out against gun violence.

The QC Times reports QC mom Tara Witherow has organized one such event in Davenport, taking place on March 24 at Vander Veer Park. Witherow says since the march's Facebook event page was created, more than 1,000 people have responded that they're interested.

The main purpose of the march is to advocate for what Witherow calls "common sense gun laws." Local parents and students will be giving speeches and a march around the park will take place.

There has been no shortage of violent threats made at area schools in the wake of the Parkland shootings. Just last week, an East Moline teen was charged with a felony for threatening to "shoot up" his high school.
