Last week I speculated about whether Krispy Kreme would be coming back to the Quad Cities after their parent company bought the parent company of Panera Bread.

Now, it looks like I was smelling the wrong donuts.

Outgoing Rock Island mayor Dennis Pauley announced at last night's city council meeting that Dunkin' Donuts will open a location beside CVS pharmacy on 18th Avenue at 27th Street.

The property is the site of the old Audubon School which was torn down a few years ago.

This will be the fifth Dunkin' Donuts location in the Quads. Dunkin' has stores on West Locust, Avenue of the Cities, East 53rd St, and in Silvis.

According to The Argus, The last Dunkin' Donuts store in Rock Island closed just two blocks away from the new location in 1999 after a dispute between the franchise owner and Dunkin's corporate office.

Construction is expected to begin in June or July with the smell of donuts wafting through the air in Rock Island by October.
