When life throws you circumstances beyond your control, sometimes the angels sent your way are those in your own community. This is your feel-good story of the week!

When Galva, IL. farmer, Carl Bates faced the battle of his life, terminal cancer, he was also faced with not being able to harvest his crops. Having the additional worry of time and money invested and possibly lost, Car and his family reached out to a couple local friends and farmers for help. But what he got instead was such a surprise.

Volunteers from all over showed up to help on September 25th. It sounds like a countdown song from Christmas-time (Partridge in a Pear Tree). Forty people, 16 semis and 10 combines plus food and equipment were donated from area businesses.

The scene of this mass-volunteer effort is staggering. In just 10 hours, 450 acres were harvested. Usually, this takes weeks to accomplish, but thanks to the love and generosity for a fellow, rural, Illinois farmer, those who showed up, showed up just in time for Carl Bates and his family.
