Winston Churchill once said, "the arts are essential to any complete national life. The State owes it to itself to sustain and encourage them... Ill fares the race which fails to salute the arts with the reverence and delight which are their due.”

Don Wooten understood this as he led the charge of guiding Genesius Guild through 61 years of existence.

The group offers its free classic theater series every summer at Lincoln Park in Rock Island. Their 61st season continues this weekend with a presentation of Shakespeare's 'Comedy of Errors,' and continues through August 6.

Here is the complete Genesius Guild schedule for this summer:

  • July 1-2: Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors"
  • July 8-9 and 15-16: Euripedes' "The Trojan Women"
  • July 22-23 and 29-30: Shakespeare's "Henry V"
  • Aug. 4-6: Aristophanes' "The Clouds"
