As a kid I was obsessed with time. My kindergarten teacher couldn't get me to stop playing with an alarm clock in class, and I would always color wall calendars for my Mom.

The Quad City Times has come up with a calendar that is quintessentially homegrown, and puts my hand-drawn calendars to shame.

The calendar features photos of inattentive truck drivers who met the immovability of the Harrison and Brady Street railway bridges - or what locals call the Truck Eating Bridges.

All proceeds from this unique calendar go to benefit the initiatives of Literacy Leadership Inc - a non-profit dedicated to helping Quad Cities and Muscatine area children.

It is certainly a unique gift idea for that hard-to-shop-for person, while benefiting a great cause.
