Heart disease is the number one killer of women in America. That's according to The American Heart Association whose members are holding the annual Quad Cities Go Red For Women luncheon this week in the Quad Cities. The group hopes to raise $80,000 for research and education aimed at helping save more lives in the Quad Cities and surrounding area.
According to a QurQuadCities.com story, event planners are expecting 300 attendees at the fundraiser from 10:30-1 on Wednesday, November 1 at The RiverCenter, downtown Davenport.
The Go Red For Women movement is meant to inspire women to make lifestyle changes, mobilize communities and shape policies to save lives. Over the past 10 years, generous donations to the Go Red For Women movement have helped save more than 627,000 women from heart disease, 285 fewer women are dying each day, and the number of women aware of their number one killer has jumped from 22% to well over 50.
Over the past five years, the American Heart Association has invested $11.3 million into 44 research studies across Iowa. For more information, to donate or learn more or attend the luncheon go to  Go Red For Women Quad Cities site.
