Government Bridge Closed Due To Malfunction

One of the busiest, and certainly the oldest crossing over the Mississippi River is closed for the time being.

According to the Quad City Times, a hydraulic cylinder on the Government Bridge swing span has stopped functioning leaving the bridge in the position open for barges and closed to vehicular traffic.

No word on when repairs will be made and the bridge reopened.
