As she allows more parts of Iowa to slowly re-open, it is now Governor Kim Reynolds who may find herself in self-isolation. The Gazette reports that Governor Reynolds is considering stronger regulations on herself including self-isolation. Dr. Caitlin Pedati, director of the Iowa Department of Public Health has already decided to self-isolate.

How did this all happen so quickly? Last week Reynolds and Pedati had a private meeting at the White House with President Trump and Vice President Pence. The administration praised Iowa's efforts in battling coronavirus. The Gazette reports that while there, Governor Reynolds spent time near Katie Miller, Pence's secretary, and primary spokesperson for the coronavirus task force. While Miller did not have COVID-19 at the time, she did test positive for it last Friday. Also, a military aide who serves as President Trump's valet also tested positive.

Vice President Pence then came to Iowa on Friday, where he met with faith leaders and officials from the agriculture industry. The Gazette reports that Pence and Reynolds were in each other's company for extended periods of time during his visit. Neither wore a mask but did practice proper social distancing. It was known before Pence headed to Iowa that his secretary had tested positive for the virus.

Pence stayed away from the White House over the weekend but is scheduled to return on Monday. Last week it was announced that Pence and President Trump were being tested for the virus daily.

Personally I think this would be a good time for our governor to set a good example for the rest of the state. She has clearly been around people who have been directly exposed to the virus. Self-isolate and tell us why it is the right thing to do.
