Hand, Foot, Mouth disease is "going around," Dr. Aimee Behnke tells the Quad City Times. One of my friend's kids got this last year, and it's not a pleasant experience. I remember it lead to a cranky child and a cranky mom. The Quad City Times article lists the symptoms as a high fever, super cranky kids, and spots on the back of the throat, palms, soles of feet and sometimes bottom. Many times it's spread through day care or child care centers.

Because it's a virus, your doctor can't prescribe an antibiotic to get rid of it. You can only treat your child's symptoms and let the virus run it's course. So how can you keep your kids from getting it? Dr. Vikram Agrawal told the Quad City Times the best prevention is to teach your kids good health habits like covering their nose and mouth while sneezing and coughing and proper hand washing technique. I know it's important to teach children that, but good luck getting that to happen at daycare.
