Hy-Vee Donating $1 Million To Support Racial Unity And Equality

With racial tension at an all time high in the United States, Hy-Vee is stepping up big time. The grocery store announced that they are going to donate $1 million and one million volunteer hours to organizations that support racial unity and equality.

On Tuesday, Hy-Vee, announced in a press release that they will be donating $1 million and commit to providing one million volunteer hours, to organizations that support racial unity and equality. Organizations where Hy-Vee will donate one million hours will mainly by in the Hy-Vee 8 state coverage area.

With Hy-Vee having locations in Minnesota, including Minneapolis, Hy-Vee has already given volunteer hours in the Minneapolis area. This press release says that Hy-Vee employees have already been working with local organizations to provide meals, snacks and water to those in impacted, and have helped clean neighborhoods that have also been impacted within the Twin Cities.

Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman, CEO and president said in the press release,

“There are times when actions speak volumes and when actions can help to create real, long-lasting change -- and for us, this is one of those times. Hy-Vee was founded on a guiding set of principles we call our 15 fundamentals. Four of those fundamentals – fairness, caring, respect and dignity – deeply pertain to the current situation our country is facing today. All those who call Hy-Vee home – whether it be an employee, customer or supplier – should and will feel welcomed, included and appreciated. Anything less is unacceptable.”

As we all know, not only has racial tension been at an all time high in the U.S., but we are also in the middle of a global pandemic. So far during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hy-Vee has given $1 million to Feeding America-affiliated food banks.

No word on how much money or how many volunteer hours will be donated to the Quad Cities area.
