Illinois Department of Transportation Issues Train Track Warning

As far as photo ops go, standing on train tracks is obviously not the safest place to strike a pose.

And yet, all over Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media platforms, you'll find people taking pictures on tracks anyway.

That's why the Illinois Department of Transportation is observing Rail Safety Week by sending out this important reminder on their Facebook page:

IDOT is using the hashtag #STOPtracktragedies to help spread rail safety awareness.

According to NBC News, train trespassing reached a 10 year high in 2018. Trespassing includes anyone on the tracks without permission. Some of the uptick in incidents has to do with the popularity of bloggers perceiving tracks as a glamorous or exciting place to pose for a pic.
