Iowa Great Alex Karras To Be Honored During NFL Draft Weekend
Iowa defensive great Alex Karras accomplished a lot during his career, and the awards and acclamations keep coming posthumously for Alex.
On May 1, Alex, along with 9 other former NFL legends will be officially enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. While Alex earned his Hall of Fame stripes in January of 2020, due to the pandemic it was not as celebrated as a normal HOF induction would be. The NFL is going to change that with a 90 minute feature honoring Centennial Class of 2020 members Karras, Bobby Dillon, Winston Hill, Steve Sabol, Duke Slater, Mac Speedie, Ed Sprinkle and George Young.
“From its inception, the Centennial Class of 2020 has been unique. A special Blue-Ribbon Panel elected a 20-person class to commemorate the founding of the National Football League, with enshrinees dating to the earliest eras of pro football,” said David Baker, President & CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “To recognize eight members of this class, along with trailblazer Bill Nunn from the Class of 2021, in this special way brings us great excitement and great joy. We will honor these men and their contributions to the Game in May and again in August as part of the ‘Greatest Gathering in Football.’”
The special will be recorded on April 28 and air May 1 on the NFL Network and on May 4 on ESPN 2.
Karras, Dillion, Hill, Nunn, Sabol, Slater, Speedie, Sprinkle and Young also will be recognized this summer during their respective Enshrinements on Saturday, Aug. 7 in Canton, Ohio.
