Iowa Great Places Grant Awarded To Clinton

After just being announced as the final stop in the 2020 RAGBRAI route, the city of Clinton has been awarded the Iowa Great Places Grant.

Being 1 of just 5 cities across the state to receive the Iowa Great Places Grant, the city of Clinton learned yesterday that the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs has awarded them this grant, according to KWQC.

The IDCA awarded $1 million in total between the five grants. The other cities include Adel and Redfield, Guttenberg, Marion, and Winterset.

According to the press release from the Iowa Department of of Cultural Affairs, the grant program is provided by the Iowa Legislature through the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund. It requires a 1:1 match of each city that is given this grant. The city of Clinton plans to use the funding to complete the improvements and amenity additions from South Bridge to Eagle Point Park along the Mississippi River to expand usage and safety, and provide a beautified connection between historic downtown's. Total funds granted were $248,000.

This is the second time the city of Clinton was awarded the Iowa Great Places Grant, according to KWQC. In 2007, just two years after the grant was created, the city of Clinton was awarded $315,895 toward the Public Art "Sculpture Garden," Eagle Point Park restroom facility, and the public beach in Clinton.
