Iowa is One of the Most Irish States in the U.S.

It's March! This year is flying. Can you believe that St. Patrick's Day is already coming up? On Wednesday, March 17 you'll be seeing a lot of green (and maybe even some leprechauns). The Irish holiday is widely popular and celebrated by people of many cultures. This has us thinking though, how many Iowans celebrating are actually Irish?

Zippia did some digging to answer this question and found interesting results. The determine this, Zippia looked at US Census Ancestry data and "divided the total number of residents with Irish ancestry by total number of residents." Therefore, higher percentage of Irish residents means more Irish folk in the state. The most Irish state in the U.S. is New Hampshire with 20.2% of the residents claiming to be Irish. That's 1-in-5 New Hampshire residents.

It turns out that Iowa is pretty Irish too! We came in at #12 on the list of most Irish states in the U.S. In fact, Dubuque is the 11th most Irish city, according to the report. Iowa is 13% Irish with 408,494 residents that identify as Irish. Pretty cool! And all the more reason to celebrate.
