Under normal circumstances, school cancelations mean makeup days for students, but the COVID-19 pandemic has changed all of that.

CBS Iowa reports that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will waive the requirement for schools to have to makeup days lost due to the coronavirus.

Reynolds announced on Sunday that all Iowa schools should close for the next four weeks.

Classes scheduled from Monday, March 16 to April 12 are not required to be rescheduled.

“In this time of uncertainty, the legislature is working to deliver some certainty for Iowans,” said Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver, R-Ankeny. “One of the most common questions our members receive is about rescheduling canceled school days. Now, Iowa schools and families can have some certainty regarding these four weeks of the school calendar.”
