The first round of the Masters Golf Tournament is underway in Savanah, Georgia and many of the pros were having a hard time finding their groove.

Iowa's most famous golfer Zach Johnson was one of those who couldn't seem to get it in the cup without some difficulty.

Johnson ended Thursday's opening round shooting a miserable five over par and trails early leader Justin Rose by 12 strokes, at -7 under par. Brian Harman of the USA is in second place at 3 under par.

Johnson, who graduated from Drake College , had quite a bit of trouble on his drives and paid for it with a 3-over 39 on the front nine holes. He improved slightly on the back nine with a score of 2-over 38 to finish the first round, but it was evident it just wasn't his day on the greens and fairways of Augusta National.

The four day tournament continues today and wraps up on Sunday when the coveted "green jacket" will be presented to the winner. The Masters Tournament is one one of golf's finest events and attracts the best golfers from around the world.

Zach is currently tied for 72nd out of a field of 88 players and according to the Gazette he will tee off this morning at 9:47 a.m. He'll have to shoot well to make the cut today, and with an early tee time he may avoid afternoon thunderstorms which are forecasted to hit Augusta this afternoon.

We'll keep our fingers crossed and hope that Zach can sharpen his game today. The Master's Tournament is broadcast on CBS TV.
