Two Knoxville city council members have been voted out of their positions following controversy surrounding a veterans memorial.

Carolyn Formanek and April Verwers voted to move a wooden silhouette of a soldier kneeling before a cross from Young's park on November 2nd.

The group "Americans United for Separation of Church and State" threatened to file a lawsuit against the city if they didn't remove the cross.

Local outrage against the council's decision sparked the call to remove Formanek and Verwers from their posts.

The very next day, November 3rd, another vote was called and Formanek and Verwers were ousted as council members.

The silhouette will remain in Young's park.
