Most Popular Toy In Each State
Let me guess, you don't have all your holiday shopping done yet and you don't know what to get? Well, if you have gifts left to buy some kiddos, you should probably just buy the most popular toy in Iowa or Illinois.
Reviews.org used the power of Google to figure out the most searched toys in each state. By doing that, here is what they found.

Iowa's most favorite Christmas toy is Play-Doh. I have a lot of nieces and nephews and I also played with Play-Doh a lot as a kid. If you plan to buy Play-Doh, don't forget it is really hard to get out of carpets, clothes and any other place that Play-Doh sticks (which is everywhere).
Illinois' favorite Christmas toy is Coding Critters. Not going to lie, I had to lookup what Coding Critters were. They are toys that teaches kids how to learn while they play! The toy comes from Learning Resources and is for kids 4+.
Besides finding each states' favorite toy, here is what else they found.
#1: The Most Popular Toy in the United States
The most popular Christmas toy this season in the U.S. is the Nerf gun.
If you thought we’d left these bright plastic guns behind in the ’90s (along with Starter Jackets, Goosebumps, and VHS tapes), you were wrong. Nerf was cool when your parents were kids and when you were a kid, and it’s still cool today.
11 states claim the Nerf Gun as their favorite toy which is one-fifth of the U.S. Here are the 11 states that love playing with Nerf Guns:

- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Montana
- New Mexico
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
- Wisconsin

#2: Video Game Systems
Kids and adults these days love playing video games. E-Sports has taken off in the past few years and people have been making money by simply recording themselves playing video games and putting them up on YouTube. The most popular video game console to get for Christmas this year is the Nintendo Switch.
The Switch is the most popular Christmas item in these states:
- California
- Nevada
- Texas
- Utah
- Washington, DC (even though it's not a state, it still kind of counts)
And great news: since the Switch first came out, Nintendo’s improved the battery life considerably. Sometimes it pays to not buy a game system right away!
#3: An Expensive Doll and a Mushy Classic
American Girl Dolls run for about $100, are 18-inch tall, and teach kids about history. Play-Doh is played with twice and is awful to clean up. I love Play-Doh but after or 3 times, it gets a little old and when you try to play with it months later, it's basically a rock. Both American Girl Dolls and Play-Doh are favorites in states.

- Arizona, Florida, and Washington are buzzing about the Toy Story 4 Buzz Lightyear action figure.
- Nebraska and Kansas are obsessed with these little plush critters called Scruff-a-Luvs.
- Kentucky and Rhode Island have found common ground in their love for Owleez.
- Tennessee, Maryland, and Michigan are keeping things classic with the Barbie Playset.

Through the magic of Google, we were able to extrapolate this data. More specifically, through Google Trends, we could see the most-searched toys on Google this holiday season. What we google speaks volumes about what we want to buy. Some might say Santa uses the same data to inform his gift-giving.
