Music City Bowl Officially Canceled

The 2020 Iowa Hawkeye football season will be remembered for several different reasons. One, it was able to play all it's regular season games in a year when COVID-19 caused havoc with other team's schedules. Two, it won it's final six games in a row after narrowly dropping it's first two. But in the end, COVID-19 caught up to Iowa, specifically their opponents.

COVID-19 issues within the Missouri football program caused the official cancelation of the Music City Bowl scheduled for Wednesday in Nashville. It is the 17th canceled bowl game of the season, so far. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is disappointed, especially for the players, saying "this is two games in a row where we just haven't been able to get to the finish line. I feel terrible for our players, first and foremost."

Missouri Athletic Director Jim Sterk said that his football program would have to pause all team activities through January 2nd because of COVID cases. The Gazette reports that despite a rise in cases, Missouri players were allowed to return home to their families over the Christmas break, something that many Iowa players took notice of.

However, Kirk Ferentz wasn't going to join the blame game, saying "we had our hardships a week ago." Either way its a bitter end to a 2020 season that had many Hawkeye fans planning a last minute trip to Nashville. Time to cancel your flights.
