The I-74/John Deere Road interchange in Moline could be looking at some major changes, and this means drivers may briefly have to drive on the wrong side of the road!

This is all due to the proposed "Diverging Diamond" pattern.  Officials say this would cause traffic to move better.

Instead of having merging traffic cross in the right lanes, the main lanes of John Deere Road would briefly switch sides of one another, getting rid of left-hand turns and merging traffic.

The plan will also widen John Deere Road to six lanes (three in each direction) near I-74.

The project is expected to cost $70 million.

You can see a video of the "diverging diamond" in action on WQAD's website.
