There’s another Quad City area drive in opening for the season next week.

The 61 Drive-In Theatre opens May 7 and it’s also the theatre’s 71st season.

If you’ve never been to the 61 Drive-In, which I used to know as ’The Voy,’ it's just south of Maquoketa. If you go you’ll find screenings of first run movies on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the 2021 summer season.

According to OurQuadCities.com, this theatre is one of only four drive ins in the state of Iowa.

You can spread out on the grass field, tune the sound on your radio with a lawn chair or blanket. It’s a neat feature when the theatre sells out to cars. Just park nearby and bring your stuff in ; including food and beverages, then sit back and enjoy.

There’s plenty to do at the 61 Drive In you’ll find free train rides, a swing set, sand box, basketball court, whiffle ball diamond, tether ball, and volleyball court.

There is a full concession stand if you’d rather go that route too.

“Tom & Jerry” and “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” will be shown opening weekend. Go early. This drive in is so popular sometimes there’s a wait to get in. It’s totally worth it.

The 61 Drive In is located five miles south of Maquoketa on Highway 61, Exit 153, 1228 Hwy 61, Delmar, Iowa. Get more information here
