First, it was issues with the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone catching fire. Now, Samsung has been forced to recall 34 model of their top-load washing machines due to lids that could come flying off during the spin cycle.

I wandered down to my basement yesterday only to discover I have one of those machines.

There are a few different remedies for me, and others who own the faulty washing machines:

1) Customers can contact Samsung for an in-home repair that will include a one-year extension of the free warranty.

2) A rebate towards the purchase of a new Samsung, or other model washing machine with free installation and haul away of the faulty machine.

3) A free refund for folks who have purchased their faulty Samsung machine within the last 30 days.

Whatever the remedy, Samsung advises customers to stop using the machine immediately.

A list of the model numbers of the machine affected can be found on here on the Consumer Reports website.
