Did you put off raking the yard in the autumn to watch football?  Did you avoid raking during the snowless winter because it was too cold? Well, the reckoning is at hand, my friend.

Spring Yard Waste collection has already begun in some of the Quad Cities.

Moline began picking up yard waste bags and tree limbs, and emptying carts this past Monday. Bagged waste must be in biodegradable paper bags under 30-gallons. No stickers are needed.

Rock Island will offer free leaf bags for the Free Leaf Collection Program beginning on Monday, March 27, 2017. Leaf bag collection will be Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 21, 2017. Residents do not have to be participants in the Yard Waste Collection Program to use this leaf collection service, and no yard waste stickers are required.

So far East Moline has no plans to start early collection. Yard waste collection is on Wednesdays starting the first Wednesday in April and ending the first Wednesday in December. Yard waste stickers may be purchased at East Moline Jewel, Walgreen's, both East Moline locations and at Silvis HyVee at the cost of $1.50 per sticker.  Brush ties may be purchased at East Moline Jewel and at Silvis HyVee at the cost of $1.75 per brush tie.

Davenport has it's own Compost Facility which accepts clean yard waste from Scott County, residents only. Yard waste dropped off at the facility, and those collected through the curbside solid waste collection program, are recycled into environmentally beneficial soil amendments. Free Yard Waste Collection/Drop-Off dates for this Spring in Davenport are April 3-15.

Bettendorf offers No-Charge Curbside/Alley Pickup of Yard Waste Bags between April 3 and April 14. Weekly collection is on the regular trash collection day. As Scott County residents, Bettendorf folks can also drop yard waste off at Davenport's Compost Facility. See above for details.

Grab that rake and "git 'er dun."
