The Quad Cities Most Popular Love Languages

When showing love to someone, everyone is truly different. If you're in a relationship, you probably know your partners favorite love language or else you probably wouldn't be with them.

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, a new survey has come out show each state's most love language. And since we're in the Quad Cities, we will tell you Iowa's and Illinois' most popular love language. Hint: they aren't the same.

For those who didn't know, there are different ways of expressing and receiving love. Those different ways are referred to as "love languages". The term "love languages" was made popular by the 1992 book The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate by Gary Chapman.

In Chapman's book, he says the five love languages include:

Quality time
Physical touch
Words of affirmation
Acts of service
Receiving gifts

When someone looks at that list for the first time, they probably think "duh, those are all of my love languages." Sure, but out of those five love languages, there is one that really speaks to your heart the most.

There are a million online quizzes that will tell you your love language, but we aren't here for that. Do that on your own time. We want to find out each state's most popular love language.

Fortunately, Shane Co. did a survey to find out each state's favorite love language for us. To determine which love language is the most popular in each state, they first looked at Google Trends data for search terms around the five major love languages in different states. Then, to get an even closer look, Shane Co. conducted a survey of over 2,600 Americans to break down the most popular love languages by the numbers, analyzing differences across generations and between men and women.

This are some key facts that they found:

Quality time was the most popular love language among the U.S. with 15 states saying that is their favorite love language.
Physical touch was second with 12 states saying it's their favorite.
Receiving gifts is the least popular love language. Only three states say that is the most popular love language.
Quality time was the most popular love language amongst those surveyed with 41.6% saying quality time speaks volumes to them. Words of affirmation coming in second with 18.5%.
Men and women of all ages also say that quality time is the most popular love language among those demographics.

What love language speaks the most to Quad Citizens? That depends what side of the river you're on.

According to Shane Co., Iowans say that physical touch is their favorite love language. Illinoisans say the way to their heart is by speaking the love language of words of affirmation.
