1/20/21 UPDATE :  Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday, 1/19.  That jackpot is now estimated at $970 million dollars.  The next chance to win that one will be Friday.  So some quick math...$1.7 billion dollars in lottery money now up for grabs.

It was just last week when I said two of the largest jackpots in the history of the lottery were up for grabs.  Well, apparently not enough of you bought tickets (or you are all just as lucky as my Irish butt) because nobody has won the Mega Millions or Powerball since then.

This means you could now save all that luck for this week and with the $865 million dollar Mega Millions on Tuesday (1/19) or the $730 million dollar Powerball jackpot on Wednesday (1/20).  Or, you could get really lucky and win both to become America's next billionaire.  Even with the cash option you are up over $1 billion by winning both.  But let's not get greedy.  You take one, and I'll take one.  Deal?

Now that it's been a week and nobody has won, let's reexamine where these jackpots fall in the history of the lottery.

Here are the largest jackpots ever.

  1. $1,586.4
  2. $1,537
  3. $970,000,000 (Current Mega Millions jackpot) (updated 1/20/21)
  4. $768.4
  5. $758.7
  6. $730,000,000 (Current Powerball jackpot)
  7. $687.8
  8. $656
  9. $648
  10. $590.5

Yeah, we aren't talking about barely getting in the top 10 anymore.  It's now the 3rd and 6th largest hauls ever.  Or again, just win both and you can win the largest amount ever.

Oh, and just a reminder, the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.  And Powerball odds, 1 in 292,201,338.00.  So get back to work.

But just in case you do win...check out the photo gallery of a $14 million dollar castle you could buy.  And still have plenty of cash to spare!
