Schwing! Party time! Excellent! We‘re not worthy, we’re not worthy!

Alright, now that that’s all over and done with — Wayne‘s World is coming back to theaters. The cult spinoff of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey’s teen rocker characters from Saturday Night Live will hit the 25th anniversary mark come February, and to commemorate this momentous occasion, Paramount has deigned to re-release the film for a two-night engagement in cites across America. /Film has the full down-low on the plan for next month, but suffice to say that creative air guitar is about to come back in style.

When the film debuted in 1992 at the peak of Wayne and Garth’s popularity, the goofy in-jokes and generous touches of meta self-awareness clicked with viewers and amassed a devoted fanbase. They’ll all be pleased to know that on the nights of February 7 and 8, theaters across America (mostly, affiliates of the Cinemark and Carmike chains, but the full availability has been posted on the official site) will party like it’s 1992. What’s more, the rereleased presentation includes a couple of bonus goodies — Rolling Stone’s in-house film critic Peter Travers will deliver an introduction about the film as well as a recorded discussion between director Penelope Spheeris and to-be-named members of the cast.

Theatrical re-releases for popular properties coming up on a major anniversary have become increasingly common, and why not? It’s a fun way to share in enthusiasm with like-minded fans, and possibly to see a film you’ve only known on home video in the environment in which it was meant to be seen. Go ahead and dust off the Alice Cooper vinyl.
