Why Isn’t Will Smith in Independence Day 2?!?

We got our first look at Independence Day 2: Resurgence yesterday, but there was one main character noticeably absent from the trailer.

Turns out Will Smith won't be in the movie at all!

Smith, who played Colonel Steven Hiller in the first movie back in 1996, was evidently asking too much money and they decided to move on without him.

**SPOILER ALERT**

According to ScreenCrush, the plan is to say Hiller died in a testing accident back in 2007.

Hiller's son, Dylan (played by Jessie Usher), will reportedly be in the movie.  Perhaps seeking revenge for his father's death.
