Certainly one of the grossest games going around earlier this year was the Bean Boozled Jelly Bean Challenge. If you're not familiar with it, check out this video of the morning team from our sister station 97X playing it live on-the-air. Blech.

Regardless of some nasty flavors, Jelly Beans remain one of America's oldest, and favorite treats.

According to Wikipedia (if it is on Wikipedia, it must be true, right?) "it is generally thought that jelly beans first surfaced in 1861, when Boston confectioner William Schrafft urged people to send his jelly beans to soldiers during the American Civil War. It was not until July 5, 1905, that jelly beans were mentioned in the Chicago Daily News."

With National Jelly Bean Day taking place last Saturday, April 22, we decided to find out what the favorite jelly bean flavors are amongst Iowans and Illinoisans.

According to CandyStore.com, Illinois’ top three are:

  • chocolate
  • black licorice
  • and grape.

Iowa’s top three are:

  • cherry
  • buttered popcorn
  • and grape.

So, at least our two states can agree on one thing - grape jelly beans. Enjoy.
